Introducing OVERCOMING A TOXIC RELATIONSHIP

 

Overcoming a toxic relationship is a topic we will be discussing here on the Enternal ones in different episodes.

So what do you understand or what comes up immediately into your mind when you hear the word toxic relationship? From the common understanding of the word toxic, toxic means a Severely negative, harmful or Hateful. So we always tell ourselves to stay away from toxic people and we will be discussing on the best ways to identify a toxic person, is it very important that you know how to identify one because many times we find a lot of people in toxic relationships and we find them going through a lot of frustrations, unhappy and unhealthy relationships that sometimes cost them their own lives, this is why it is very important for us to be able to identify a toxic relationship before we find ourselves getting into one, it is very important that we are able to identify a toxic relationship.

Just like any other issues in life we will have to go back in time to find out the beginning, the starting point of it, time for us to talk about the first ever toxic act carried out by the first ever toxic person, O my God this will open a lot of eyes.

Isaiah 14:12-15, How you have fallen from heaven, morning star, son of the dawn! You have been cast down to the earth, you who once laid low the nations! You said in your heart, “I will ascend to the heavens; I will raise my throne above the stars of God; I will sit enthroned on the mount of assembly, on the utmost heights of Mount Zaphon. I will ascend above the tops of the clouds; I will make myself like the Most High.” But you are brought down to the realm of the dead, to the depths of the pit.

Wow, guess what, this verse over here is actually addressing the devil who was still Lucifer at that time, the great and beautiful morning star who delighted in glory but here we found one of the first ever toxic being to be in the universe, the devil himself, this is amazing because this guy was perfect in beauty and wisdom till corruption got hold of his heart.

If you study the scripture we just looked at the devil who was still Lucifer at that time, said five things in his heart.

“I will ascend to the heavens; I will raise my throne above the stars of God; I will sit enthroned on the mount of assembly, on the utmost heights of Mount Zaphon. I will ascend above the tops of the clouds; I will make myself like the Most High.”

From the very moment corruption got hold of his heart all he could think about was himself, nothing but himself and just look at where he ended up.

One of the best ways to identify a toxic person before going into a relationship with that person is to take a good look at what they are passionate about, the very moment you find out they are all about themselves, their self interest, self pleasure, self seeking, just know the person standing in front of you is toxic in nature. But the problem we have in this world today is that people know how to hide their true colors very well, so we must be very careful about how we rush things because it will be time that will be your only weapon in this case, when trouble and challenging Times come, the color of a man is forced to come out, so in our journey to identify a toxic person, must be in patients, yes we must be patient about this in other for us to get the right answer. 

But the real seeking should start with yourself, Yes you must search yourself to see if you have not been selfish all the way because it is easy for us to point our hands at others while we tell ourselves that you are innocent. No that's not the right way because God did not create us to be selfish in nature, selfishness is just a corruption that has gotten hold of mankind and we need help to get yourselves free from this journey of self destruction, just take a look at the beginning when Satan decided to be selfish where did that get him? Just look at how he ended up losing his beauty and glory, self seeking will only destroy everything beautiful around us and about us.

The only way to avoid or overcome a toxic relationship begins by defeating and overcoming our own selfish desires.

God has shown us a perfect example of this truth.

John 3:16, For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

Philippians 2:3-11, Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others. In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus: Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death— even death on a cross! Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

God has shown us the perfect way, the way of love, He gave his Son and Jesus Christ Who being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness, He took our likeness just to show us how much He loves us, from what God did for us we see that being selfish will only stop us from achieving great and beautiful things in life, we have to deal with every form of selfishness in us because it is only when we are able to identify the self seeking desires in us that when we will be able to identify the toxic nature in other.

The only way for us to enjoy and have a successful relationship is by dealing with the real issues in every relationship (self interest), the word of God said we should Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others, this is the only way to make things work for us, this is the only way for us to achieve great and beautiful things in our Relationship.
